What You’ll Love About the Museum of Broadway in New York City
There are so many things that you will LOVE about the Museum of Broadway in New York City! We recently took a trip to New York City with a musical theater group and we tried to do all things Broadway related. One of the highlights of our trip was our tour of the Museum of Broadway. It is more than a museum – it is an experience!
The Museum of Broadway, located in the heart of Times Square, celebrates the rich history and legacy of Broadway theater. It is a relatively new addition to New York’s cultural scene, having opened its doors in 2020. Despite its young age, the museum has quickly become a must-visit destination for theater lovers from around the world. The museum’s exhibits showcase the history of Broadway theater. We learned about its earliest days from the late 19th century to the present day.
We also enjoyed the interactive areas in the museum. Many of the exhibits include interactive elements, allowing visitors to explore the world of Broadway theater in a hands-on way. Everyone in our group enjoyed all of the areas that are perfect for photos and videos for Instagram or TikTok. Pictures and videos are allowed and encouraged.
Exhibits at the Museum of Broadway
The tour of this museum is self-guided. As you make your way through the rooms/exhibitions, you keep moving forward – the tour moves in one direction. So, be sure to spend as much time as you like/need to enjoy each room.
One of the museum’s main exhibits is its “Theater Legends” exhibit. It features costumes, props, and other artifacts from some of Broadway’s most iconic productions. We saw items from shows like “Cats,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Hamilton,” and others.
Another popular exhibit at the Museum of Broadway is its “Broadway Yesterday and Today” exhibit. This exhibit provides an in-depth look at the evolution of Broadway theater. We saw Broadway’s start from the early days of vaudeville to the modern era of big-budget productions. The exhibit features photographs, videos, and other multimedia elements that bring the history of Broadway to life.
In addition to its exhibits, the Museum of Broadway also offers a variety of programs and events. These are available for visitors of all ages. These include workshops, talks, and screenings, as well as special events like Broadway-themed trivia nights and sing-alongs. See upcoming events HERE.
Gift Shop
Of course, no visit to the Museum of Broadway would be complete without a stop at its gift shop. This is one is definitely hard to miss – you walk through it as you enter and as you exit the museum. The shop features a wide variety of Broadway-themed merchandise including t-shirts, posters, and other souvenirs. We also found some unique Broadway-themed items like playing cards. Visitors can also purchase tickets to upcoming Broadway shows at the shop.
You can also shop the Museum of Broadway Merch online HERE.
Overall, the Museum of Broadway is a must-visit destination for anyone with a love for theater and the performing arts. Its exhibits, programs, and events provide a fascinating look at the history and legacy of Broadway, and its location in the heart of Times Square makes it a convenient stop for visitors to New York City. Whether you’re a lifelong theater buff or simply curious about the world of Broadway, the Museum of Broadway is well worth a visit. It’s a great place to spend a few hours while in New York!

We love love love Broadway and used to go see dozens of shows each year before kids. We might have to check this out. It would be so fun to see some of the costumes from some of our favorite shows!
It was so interesting! If you’re a Broadway fan, you will definitely appreciate it.
I would love to visit the Museum of Broadway. I think it will be very interesting to experience.
I recommend 100%
I didn’t realize there was such a museum. I love Broadway, and this looks like such a fun place to go!
I’ve only been to New York once so far and it was a brief visit. I’d love to go again and see various sites and museums. This would be a good one to add to the list.
It’s a good one! It’s located in the Theater District near all the Broadway shows, Hell’s Kitchen, and Times Square. There’s so much to do in the area after your museum tour. We ate lunch, saw a show, shopped at Circle Gifts, ate dinner, saw a second show, walked all over Times Square, and stopped at Carlo’s Bakery for some sweets.
This is so cool! I did not even realize that they had this museum there! I will defintely be checking it out on my next trip there.
I think it’s kind of new. It’s located right in the Theater District so it’s a perfect place to visit while in the area (we went to the museum and then saw a matinee of Phantom and then saw Wicked that night).
I do think it would be so wonderful to stroll around in there. Broadways have a special place in my heart.
I do have a love for theater and the performing arts. I will surely visit this museum!
You will love this museum! My daughter is heavily involved in musical theater and she was in heaven. I’ve helped backstage a lot, but I’m mostly just a fan of musicals and I also enjoyed this museum.
Wow, I envy you. Indeed we love so many things about this broadway museum. This is next to our list and I am excited to visit.
This is an interesting place and loves the activities in this place. Good background for taking pictures. Thank you for sharing!
I have never been to NY yet, but it is one of my biggest dreams. The Museum of Broadway looks like a nice place, and I like the integrative elements.
