What You’ll Love About the Museum of Broadway in New York City

There are so many things that you will LOVE about the Museum of Broadway in New York City! We recently took a trip to New York City with a musical theater group and we tried to do all things Broadway related. One of the highlights of our trip was our tour of the Museum of Broadway. It is more than a museum – it is an experience!

The Museum of Broadway, located in the heart of Times Square, celebrates the rich history and legacy of Broadway theater. It is a relatively new addition to New York’s cultural scene, having opened its doors in 2020. Despite its young age, the museum has quickly become a must-visit destination for theater lovers from around the world. The museum’s exhibits showcase the history of Broadway theater. We learned about its earliest days from the late 19th century to the present day.

We also enjoyed the interactive areas in the museum. Many of the exhibits include interactive elements, allowing visitors to explore the world of Broadway theater in a hands-on way. Everyone in our group enjoyed all of the areas that are perfect for photos and videos for Instagram or TikTok. Pictures and videos are allowed and encouraged.

Exhibits at the Museum of Broadway

The tour of this museum is self-guided. As you make your way through the rooms/exhibitions, you keep moving forward – the tour moves in one direction. So, be sure to spend as much time as you like/need to enjoy each room.

One of the museum’s main exhibits is its “Theater Legends” exhibit. It features costumes, props, and other artifacts from some of Broadway’s most iconic productions. We saw items from shows like “Cats,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Hamilton,” and others.

Another popular exhibit at the Museum of Broadway is its “Broadway Yesterday and Today” exhibit. This exhibit provides an in-depth look at the evolution of Broadway theater. We saw Broadway’s start from the early days of vaudeville to the modern era of big-budget productions. The exhibit features photographs, videos, and other multimedia elements that bring the history of Broadway to life.

In addition to its exhibits, the Museum of Broadway also offers a variety of programs and events. These are available for visitors of all ages. These include workshops, talks, and screenings, as well as special events like Broadway-themed trivia nights and sing-alongs. See upcoming events HERE.
