Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios at Disney World
|We had so much fun at Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios. The park is very popular and the wait times can be long, but it is well worth a visit.
Even as an adult, I enjoyed the nostalgic feel of this area and all of the happy feelings and memories this brought out of me. My kids loved that they felt like they were in the movie and they loved how fun all of the rides were.
If you’re considering a trip to Toy Story Land, here are some things you can expect:
Toy Story Land
Woody greets you at the entrance of Toy Story Land. As you enter, you are reminded of your childhood memories of playing with your favorite toys. We actually felt like we were among the toys in Andy’s room.
The green Army Men had several, random drumming parades throughout the day. Woody, Buzz, and Jessie also joined them for one of their parades.
There are also several meet-and-greet opportunities in Toy Story Land. We saw several (long) lines to meet Woody, Buzz, and Jessie. Buzz tends to hang out right in front of Slinky Dog Dash (where Jessie is lassoing the dinosaur). Jessie and Woody tend to be in front of Toy Story Mania.
My “tweenagers” wanted to ride roller coasters and see shows so they weren’t as interested in meeting characters. But, many of the little ones (and adults) were so excited to meet Jessie, Woody, and Buzz.
Slinky Dog Dash
I highly recommend trying to get a Fastpass+ for Slinky Dog Dash. The line sometimes wraps all the way to the front of the Toy Story Land entrance!
Honesty, all 3 Rides here are very popular and the lines can get ridiculously long. These are great rides to use for a Fastpass+ if you can get one. The lines for Alien Swirling Saucers and Toy Story Mania grew so long as the hours passed.
We rode both of these pretty quickly first thing in the morning after the park opened (Alien Swirling Saucers and Toy Story Mania).
Slinky Dog Dash (the Experience)
Even though our wait was long, Disney does a great job of making the wait interesting. We watched the Army men hard at work and we were able to see Andy’s drawings (his plans to build Slinky Dog Dash).
I love all of the details on this extremely well-themed ride. You really felt like you were one of the toys in Andy’s room. P.S. There is a hidden Mickey in the above photo – amongst the parachuting green army men in the clouds on the paper to the right.
We really felt immersed in Andy’s childhood creations – his drawings, cardboard box buildings, etc. The kids were about the same size as the Green Army Men holding up a huge Elmer’s glue bottle.
We waited in line for almost 90 minutes (and that was the shortest line of the day!). There were fans blowing, a few umbrellas, and some of the line is shaded. Sometimes, God sent us a big cloud and a nice breeze. They (Disney Cast Members) were selling waters and Powerade at a drink stand about halfway through the line.
We had just eaten a hearty lunch at Backlot Express, so this seemed to be a good time to get in line. We weren’t in a rush to ride something right after eating anyway.
I loved all of the sweet touches, like Slinky Dog telling you to “Hold On” and letting you know “We’re about to go fast”. I’m not sure if the voice is the actual Jim Varney (the original voice for Slinky Dog who passed away from cancer), but it sure sounded like him.
Slinky Dog Dash (the Ride)
Slinky Dog Dash takes you around some thrilling curves and fun hills. You even get a nice sky-high view of Toy Story Land.
About halfway through the ride, Slinky Dog stops and slowly rolls back. Then, like a slingshot, you are sent on another thrilling ride.
Overall, I would say this ride is a lot of fun and I felt it was worth the wait. It is fast and exciting, but not scary at all.
At the end of the ride, you feel like you are in another one of Andy’s toy creations, complete with a cardboard box covered in stickers, books, toys, and blocks.
Slinky Dog Dash (the Finale)
The big finale on Slinky Dog Dash includes a performance by Wheezy the Penguin. This is the first-ever auto-animatronic of Wheezy. I loved hearing him sing to us on the final brake run.
Even the exit of the ride is really cool with lots of photo ops. There is a popsicle wall, a checker’s board wall (complete with huge checkers), Andy’s drawings, blocks, barrels of monkeys, and green army men hard at work.
Alien Swirling Saucers
We were able to snag a FastPast+ for Toy Story Mania, but couldn’t get one for Alien Swirling Saucers. We decided to ride this first thing as soon as the park opened. This turned out to be a great idea because we didn’t wait more than 5 minutes to ride this. As the day progressed, the line got longer and longer.
Alien Spinning Saucers is a spinning ride. There are three circular tracks and our Alien Saucer changed tracks at least 3 times. These rides usually make me really sick, but this ride is pretty tame and we all really enjoyed it.
The Restroom
Even the bathrooms at Toy Story Land are themed with colorful, toy blocks and Scrabble Tiles. It’s great to have a restroom in this area so families can visit before getting into long lines. It is located right across from the Alien Swirling Saucers ride.
Toy Story Mania
Toy Story Mania was very exciting! It reminded me of the Buzz Lightyear ride in Tomorrow Land at the Magic Kingdom. After finishing each arcade/carnival type game, we spun around and then were sent to a new challenge. It was a lot of fun!
Even waiting for this ride was interesting – from the huge, talking Mr. Potato Head to the life-size Etch-A-Sketch. All of the details kept us entertained while waiting in line.
In addition to being very colorful and entertaining, the line queue is mostly shaded or inside. This made the wait tolerable and even enjoyable since it was very hot on the day we visited.
As you near the ride entrance, you can pick out your 3-D glasses. This ride is full of carnival-style games displayed on large screens and wearing the glasses really make the activities come alive.
This ride includes shooting challenges and ring toss contest. You spin and zip through the carnival, playing several different games. We tried to score as many points as we could.
Woody’s Lunch Box
Woody’s Lunchbox is a quick-service restaurant that offers sandwiches, soups, and desserts. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and provide outdoor seating.
Don’t let the small size of this restaurant and menu fool you. Woody’s Lunch Box serves some delicious food in generous portions. They also offer specialty drinks and alcoholic beverages at lunch and dinner (see more info below).

The portions at Woody’s Lunchbox were very generous. I think 2 people could share the BBQ Brisket Melt – that thing is huge.
And, being able to have a grilled cheese with tomato soup brought back all of those childhood feels.
We were so excited to try the S’ mores French Toast but missed the breakfast cut-off time. So, if you have your heart set on trying this, be sure to order it at breakfast time!
Toy Story Land at Night
Even though we had spent quite a bit of time at Toy Story Land earlier in the day, we wanted to return to see it all lit up at night. We loved all of the glowing, colorful lights throughout this area. It almost felt like we were in a cool, arcade game.
I am hoping the wait times for these rides will be significantly shorter once Star Wars Land and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Train open in 2019. I completely understand why Toy Story Land is so popular, but we would have enjoyed riding the rides more than once.
But, even with the long wait times, I definitely recommend visiting Toy Story Land. I was very impressed with the attention to detail and how much fun this area is. Toy Story Land and the Jedi Training made Hollywood Studios one of our favorite parks at Disney.

Awwwww I love Toy Story! This looks like so much fun.
It was so amazing reading through your post..I kind of visited the Toy Story Land in my mind. Thanks to your post that this will be in my travel bucket list now. I loved all of Andy’s drawing, they are so accurate and detailed.
This is so awesome…..It breaks my heart that I haven’t been here, especially being a Disney lover. Now after reading your post, I am definitely planning a trip in spring to WDW.Thanks for inspiring people with your posts.
I would love to see Toy Story Land! These are my comfort places and I love them where you can become a kid again. Roller coaster rides, spins, theme-based adventure is my kind of a day. And since I have always love the Toy story movies, I am gonna love this place. I loved the restroom where alphabets look similar to those from scrabble.
Toy Story is one of the best Disney movies ever! Every time I watch it, I pick up another little innuendo from childhood! Maybe one day I will take the grandkids to see this!
Looks like a lot of fun! I especially love the green drummers! Would love to visit, ’cause, you know, you’re really never too old to have fun!
I hear ya, Nina! I’m old, but I still feel young at heart. I probably had more fun than the kids did!
This looks like so much fun and I had no idea it even existed! It would be so cool to get sucked into a world that is so much bigger than life like that!
I think it’s only been open for about 6-7 months, so it’s relatively new. It is really fun!
I’ll just have my kids read this, and keep it as a visit memory (keep me in your prayers as I hope it works). What else do I need to know apart from spending money on travelling?
Very detailed post.
Download the Disney Experience APP on your phone and set up your Fastpass+ ASAP. If Slinky Dog Dash is on the list, snatch that baby up. I recommend using all of your Fastpass+ for Toy Story Land.
Toy Story Land has always fascinated me along with Disney World on a whole. The more I read the more I want to go.
It is definitely a fascinating place!
I’ve read a lot of travel and Disney blogs. But this one is amazing. That trip sounds like it was a blast. I love the description about feeling like you were walking around with the toys in Andy’s room. That sounds like fun! I am the kind of nerd who would go just for the photo opportunities!
Thank you, Erica! You made my day! I want to write this blog like I am just one mom telling another mom all of the details she needs to know to have the best family vacation possible.
We really enjoyed Toy Story Land, as well. The theming is excellent! There isn’t much shade though, so it can be extremely hot.
I know, right? There were a few umbrellas and pavilions, but that was it. I did like the fans blowing on us while we were in line at Slinky Dog. And, I liked that most of the line for Toy Story Mania and Alien Saucers were inside or under shade.
OMG Great pics! I’m so jealous. Putting this on my travel bucket list now.
Don’t be jealous. My feet still hurt! Hahaha…just kidding…not really. It was worth it!
All these years somehow I never considered to visit Disneyland or Disneyworld. Now with the arrival of my daughter in my life, I’m considering a visit here!
Toy Story land looks interesting. Takes me to the nostalgic young age when I watched the movies.
Oh, yes, your daughter will love Disney World – especially when she goes through the princess phase. We haven’t been to Disneyland yet, but it’s on our travel bucket list.
I never even knew this place existed! And yes, talk about attention to detail. The Woody’s lunchbox menu board is adorable! I loved all of Andy’s drawings and how accurate all of the characters looked. This is really neat, I think my kiddos would love it there!
Yes, the details here were amazing! I think I could visit Toy Story Land 100 times and still see something new. Your kiddos would love it!
My kids (grown now) had all the movies. It was definitely a family favorite. I love all of the pictures. I’m adding this to my bucket list, perhaps I can go with the grands.
Disney never ceases to amaze me how well thought out they do things. Toy Story land is amazing. The detail is beyond words. We were there the first week or so after it opened so as you can imagine it was insane. We were not able to ride Slinky Dog Dash but have always loved Toy Story Mania. I feel like I’m getting carpal tunnel every time i do that attraction (all that pulling on the string kills me).
I can only imagine, Scott! Six months later and it was still packed with people. Hopefully, when Mickey and Minnie Runaway Train and Star Wars Land opens, the crowds will even out. But, I have never seen low crowds at Disney- even on a random Wednesday in February in pouring down rain!
This place is like every kid’s dreamland. Even I have watched Toy Story and I would love to visit this place. Imagine how fun it would be to be accompanied by kids. You have given all the details one need to know about the place. I am surely going to recommend this to my cousin who is a mother of a 8-year old boy.
Thanks, Shreya! Your cousin and her son will love it! I think you will love it, too.
I love Toy story and this place looks absolutely amazing! I have never been there but I would love to be there. Such a lovely place. Seems you had a great time.
We really did have a great time! If you love the movies, you will definitely love Toy Story Land.
This place looks absolutely amazing! Great photos and now I want to go watch all the movies again!
I know, right?!? I wished we had watched all 3 movies before we left – even though the 3rd one makes me do some serious ugly crying.
My boys love Toy Story Land especially the Slinky Ride. It’s just so fun and colorful. We also visited HK Disneyland and we love the parachute ride. Forgot the name. 🙂
Thank you for sharing this Disney post. Love it. Made me really excited to visit Disneyland Paris soon.
Oh, wow, Clarice! HK Disneyland sounds amazing! I would also like to visit the Disneyland in Paris as well. We also loved the Slinky Dog ride at Hollywood Studios.
Wow….I have not been to Disney World but I hope to, some day. Perhaps then, I could try all of the things you have mentioned. This will help with planning!
I hope this post helps! You’ll have a lot of fun – I promise!
I loved Toy Story the Movie , it must have been great to be on those rides. The stories about the 90-minute wait sounds not for the non-patient patrons. I would be one of those I think but the characters are awesome and I would love a photo with them !
I did it for the kids, Adele! We had just had a busy morning and a big lunch, so it was fine to just stand in line and chill for a while. I recommend getting a fastpass if you can – we just couldn’t. You would have loved the character meet and greets. They had them all throughout the day!
Visited this one years ago. Not all rides were open yet. So much changes and looks more lively. Hoping to go back one day!
I hope you do, Michael! It was really fun. This trip, we noticed that Mickey and Minnie Runaway Train and Star Wars Land were being worked on. There will be a lot of new, exciting things at Hollywood Studios in fall 2019.
We have been to Disneyland but not to Disney World. Love all the pictures from Toy Storyland, my son would love it – he loves all the characters! It was fun seeing Andy’s room recreated in full.
We haven’t been to Disneyland yet, but I would love to take the kiddos soon. Your son would love Toy Story Land. I would love to see this area through the eyes of a child. Everything has been built to scale and you really feel like a little toy in Andy’s room.
I have just been to the Disneyand near Paris and I enjoyed it a lot. It’s amazing to be in a real fairy tale where every detail is perfectly designed. Would be a pleasure to see the toy story part, it looks so authentic.
I bet you loved Disneyland Paris, Anita! It sounds amazing.
I had so much fun (and few tears) watching The Toy Story movies and I think having to experience this attraction would complete the whole excitement. How I wish we have the same here at least in Asia! I’ll send your post to my friend who are near this city.
Thanks, Blair! I hope this helps your friend. Hopefully, you can visit Disney World soon or Disney will open a similar attraction in Asia.
