Oh, how I love, love, LOVE Nashville, Tennessee! It is exciting like a big city, but it is also charming with a small-town feel. I just always feel right at home when we visit. The best part of Nashville is that there are so many places to see, things to do, and foods to eat. Here are 101 of our family’s favorite things to do in Nashville:
1. Broadway
Broadway is one of Nashville’s great hot spots. There are many places to hear live music and get something to eat and drink. Some popular spots on Broadway include:

2. Grand Ol’ Opry
The Grand Ol’ Opry offers backstage tours and concert events. Kids will also love the little park area outside with giant guitars, which make for great photo ops. The concerts and shows are also very family-friendly which is nice. See the link below for tour info and the concert schedule.

3. Pinewood Social
We love Pinewood Social! This trendy and fun place has lots of fun things to do and plenty of delicious food. You can swim or play games outside or go bowling inside. While you’re having fun, you can try some great craft cocktails, coffees, and yummy dishes!
The menu is varied and seems to change regularly. We tried (and LOVED) the Kale Salad, Mushroom Pot Pie, and Burgers with Fries. See all of their menu items HERE.

4. Husk
Located in a historic home on Rutledge Hill, Husk is one of those restaurants you HAVE to try. Their motto is – “If it doesn’t come from the South, it’s not coming through the door.” The ingredients for the food & cocktails are locally sourced and herbs are even grown on-site.
You gotta try the Zucchini and Ricotta (Buttermilk) Johnny Cakes served with a side of Basil Seed Butter { YUM! } if it’s one of the Daily Specials. Reservations are highly recommended!

5. Country Music Hall of Fame
If your family loves Country Music, you’ll really enjoy a tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame. This is a beautiful and interesting museum showcasing the history and evolution of country music, and they even offer a scavenger hunt for children. The whole family will enjoy learning how music is made – from songwriting to recording, and kiddos will also get a kick out of seeing Elvis Presley’s Gold Cadillac and Taylor Swift memorabilia.

6. Rolf & Daughters
Rolf and Daughters is a converted warehouse that serves farm-to-table dishes. The menu here is creative and the dishes are uniquely flavorful. Patrons recommend pasta with shrimp and breadcrumbs (or any pasta dish really).
They also recommend sourdough with seaweed butter or any one of the nightly specials. Whatever you decide to order, you will definitely satisfy your adventurous, foodie cravings.

7. Tennessee Performing Arts Center
The Tennessee Performing Arts Center is located right in the heart of Nashville. It is a beautiful theater that showcases Broadway shows, ballets, music concerts, and other special events. If you have an interest in the arts, check the schedule to see what events are coming up soon!

8. Music Row
Music Row is one of the most iconic places to go in Nashville, Tennessee. Here, you can see music production companies, record labels, radio stations, and local recording studios.
You can sign up for tours of the radio towers and recording studios. There are lots of Insta-worthy spots in this area as well!

9. Five Daughters Bakery
This family-owned bakery (a husband and wife with 5 daughters) is very popular – and for good reason! They provide yeast donuts, 100-layer donuts, paleo donuts, cookies, and pastries. The menu offers some very original flavors (like the KING KONG with maple frosting and topped with bacon!) and new varieties are added seasonally.

11. Centennial Park & the Parthenon
Located within a few miles of Downtown Nashville, Centennial is a great park to visit with the family. The park hosts events almost every weekend (like Culture Events, Craft Fairs, and Shakespeare in the Park. There is also a greenway that is about a mile long that goes around the edge of the park. It is a nice place to walk by the kids and as you walk by the lake, the kiddos can feed the ducks.
The Parthenon was built in Nashville’s Centennial Park in 1897 as part of Tennessee’s centennial celebration. It is an exact copy of the Athenian Parthenon and is still a very popular attraction in Nashville. You can enter and pay $6 for the art museum located inside, but visiting the exterior is free and well worth a visit.

12. Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery
You can learn all about the history of this distillery and how its products are made. The tour also includes a walk-through of the production floor. At the end of the tour is a sample tasting (whiskey & bourbon).

13. Cumberland Park
Located right along the river, Cumberland Park offers many play areas and water features. There is a splash pad, an area to play in the sand, a bouncing pad, a green maze, The Gorge area (with a rock climbing wall, sliding poles, and climbing ropes), and a tandem see-saw for parents and kids. Lots of free activities for kiddos and the whole family!

14. Biscuit Love
If you visit Biscuit Love – and you MUST– you gotta try the Bonuts. Trust me – they are heavenly. They are fried biscuit dough that is tossed in sugar. They are topped with lemon mascarpone and sit on some delicious blueberry compote.
If you are in the mood for something more savory, you might like/love/crave-for-days the East Nasty and the Princess Biscuit. The East Nasty Biscuit has fried chicken, cheddar cheese, and sausage gravy and the Princess Biscuit has hot chicken, pickles, honey, and mustard. See the full menu HERE.

15. Tennessee Central Railway Museum
Tennessee Central Railway has passenger cars, cabooses, freight cars, and locomotives that have been preserved and restored. The Museum headquarters is located on Willow Street in downtown Nashville. They also offer train rides and special events (see the website below for more information)

16. Hattie B’s Hot Chicken
If you like your chicken and you like it hot, you gotta visit Hattie B’s. Hot chicken is Nashville’s thang and you might want to make it your thang, too. It’s delicious!
They also offer non-hot chicken entrees and several yummy, southern sides. You can wash it all down with sweet tea and finish off your meal with some banana pudding.

17. ACME Feed & Seed
ACME is located at the end of Broadway, right in the middle of the excitement of this street. This place feels more like a huge warehouse than a restaurant, but don’t let the appearance fool you. With live music, games, and a nice variety of food and drink items, ACME is a fun place to visit while in Nashville.

18. Hard Rock Cafe on Broadway
Our family really likes eating at Hard Rock Cafes. It’s just one of those restaurants we all can agree on – there’s something on the menu for everyone. The one in Nashville is located at the end of Broadway (right across the street from ACME).

19. Johnny Cash Museum and Cafe
Oh, I love me some Johnny Cash! If you are also a fan (especially after seeing Walk the Line), you’ll want to visit the Johnny Cash Museum & Cafe (which has received the AAA Gem Rating btw). The walls are lined with posters, memorabilia, and guitars encased in glass. You can even listen to his songs and demos at special listening stations.
While you’re there, you might as well have a meal at the cafe (or at least try some of their award-winning coffee – hot, iced, or frozen). They offer breakfast sandwiches on croissants or bagels. For lunch, they offer soups, salad, hot dogs, and sandwiches – see the full menu HERE.

20. General Jackson Showboat
General Jackson is the largest showboat in the whole wide world! Your family can cruise down the Cumberland River and enjoy a seated dinner and stage show (there are options for no dinner at a discounted cruise for some shows). If the shows seem to be too late at night for the kiddos, there is a Sunday brunch cruise.

21. Jeni’s Ice Cream
Jeni’s Ice Cream offers some of the most flavorful, and delicious ice cream you will ever try. They offer a nice variety of flavors – most of which are very unique and non-traditional. You can buy a bowl or waffle cone at the shop, take a pint home, and/or order a pint of ice cream online (see website below).

22. Adventure Science Center
This is a great place to spend a few hours (or longer) with the family. My kiddos loved the Moon Walk where they could experience 1/6 gravity.
They also loved seeing all of the planets in Wonders of the Universe. The 7-level Adventure Tower full of fun activities was also a big hit as well as the planetarium at the museum.

23. Frothy Monkey
Grab an Espresso or a Rosemary Honey Latte (some drinks are seasonal) at this popular coffee shop.
In addition to their drink menu, they also offer some delicious food. Try the Shrimp and Grits, the Salmon Sandwich, and/or California (toasted sourdough, two eggs, avocado, sprouts, and house-made salsa). You can thank me later!

24. Nashville Zoo at Grassmere
Take the kiddos to see some giraffes, alligators, owls, and red kangaroos! Nashville Zoo’s Jungle Gym was named one of the World’s Coolest Playgrounds by Travel + Leisure!

25. Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center
Opryland Resort is open to the public (We parked on the mall side of the resort to avoid the $20 parking fee on-site). This is a lovely place to stay, but even if you aren’t staying here, you can take a self-guided tour of the facilities. There is a beautiful, botanical garden atrium and walking through the areas is a lot of fun for kids and adults.
This hotel has some really nice waterfalls, fountains with fountain shows, and an indoor river complete with Delta River Flatboat Tour.
The resort has recently added an arcade (called The Basement), an indoor dark ride, and an indoor water park called SoundWaves. See more about this waterpark HERE.

26.Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory
The Dyer Observatory at Vanderbilt offers Open House Days (see the Seyfert Telescope and the Star Chamber, sundial garden, and view the Sun through the solar telescope) & Telescope Nights. They also offer Space Science Summer Camps for middle school students.

27. Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park
The kiddos will love exploring this 19-acre park and learning all about the history of Tennessee. They will also have a blast in the summertime playing in the Rivers of Tennessee fountains.
There is also a 200-foot granite map of the state of Tennessee and a World War II memorial. It’s a great spot to have a picnic, take photos of the family, and catch a fantastic view of the Capitol Building.

28. Schermerhorn Symphony Center

30. Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame and Museum
Located in downtown Nashville, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame & Museum celebrates all of the award-winning athletes from Tennessee – including Reggie Grimes, Daren Bates, and Jalen Reeves-Maybin.

With over 200 stores, Opry Mills is Tennessee’s largest outlet retail shopping center. In addition to shopping, the mall offers restaurants, a movie theatre, and a Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

Peg Leg Porker is one of the most popular BBQ restaurants in Nashville (See all of their awards HERE). You can start off with Macho BBQ Nachos or Kool-Aid Pickles and then enjoy some Pulled Pork or Ribs for your entrée. Then, you can try a fried pie with ice cream for dessert.
If you’re undecided about eating here, just stand outside the restaurant for a few seconds. The intoxicating aroma will help you make your decision – it smells (and tastes) so good!

38. Free Concerts at Live on the Green
This concert series is held at Public Square Park and hosts local and national musical artists every Thursday evening in August and September. Live on the Green features concerts with established music performers and emerging and up-and-coming artists.
39.Kayne Prime
Kayne Prime is an upscale, boutique steakhouse in Nashville. This award-winning restaurant has its wagyu beef flown in from Japan. From the dry-aged steaks to the restaurant’s ambiance, this place offers a wonderful dining experience. Locals and visitors alike also rave about their wine and cocktail selections.
In addition to their scrumptious steaks, they offer some creative sides like Carrot Latkes, Cream Corn Brulee, and Duck Tacos. For an appetizer, you might want to try the Housemade Bacon. It is made with black peppercorns and maple cotton candy. Yes, you read that correctly and you’re welcome.

40. Frist Center for the Visual Arts
Adults and older children will enjoy all of the art exhibits and children will love visiting Martin ArtQuest located at the Upper Level. Martin ArtQuest is full of fun, interactive activities for the little ones.

41. Madame Tussauds
At Madame Tussauds, you can see lifelike wax figures of your favorite country music stars. This museum is lots of fun and is full of great photo opportunities.

The Tennessee State Museum focuses on the history of Tennessee and the history of the South. It has one of the largest Civil War Collections in the USA. The exhibits range from guitars to cotton gins to mastodon bones to log cabins to covered wagons.

43. Radnor Lake
Hike the high trail or participate in one of their scheduled canoe floats, wildflower walks, and aviary tours. These events are all FREE and open to the public. You can see a list of events on the calendar HERE.

45. Belle Meade Plantation
A costumed guide will take you on an educational tour of the antebellum mansion and grounds. Your family will also be able to tour the horse stable, carriage house, gardens, a log cabin, and other historic buildings on the grounds. Mansion tours begin every 30 – 45 minutes and the last tour starts at 4:00 p.m.

46.The Southern Steak & Oyster
If you’re in the mood for a Southern-style steak and a glass of Tennessee whiskey, then you need to head over to The Southern. Locals and visitors alike rave about the blue point oysters and filet mignon.
The burgers are made from Bear Creek Farms meat. They are also among the restaurant’s most popular dishes. You might want to try the gelato or peanut brittle cheesecake for dessert. Reservations recommended, especially on the weekends.

47. Nashville Flea Market
The Nashville Flea Market is held at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and it is considered to be in the top 10 in the nation. It is a great place to look for treasures (treasures such as antiques, jewelry, handmade clothing, etc.) This market is held every fourth weekend of the month. The entrance is free.

48. Take Instagram Selfies at the Gulch
The Gulch is a historic area that was once a railroad terminal. Now this area is full of industrial art and beautiful murals – perfect for taking Instagram photos.
Some of these murals are so popular that you may have to wait in line for about 30 minutes. Kelsey Montague’s WhatLiftsYou wings mural is so popular, there is almost always a line to take a photo.
49. Sunda New Asia
Sunda New Asia is a great place to grab some Japanese food while you’re in Nashville. Try the sushi, the Tuna Poke Bowl, pork belly steam buns, or the oxtail potstickers. For a great culinary experience, visit Sunda on the first Tuesday of the month for a sushi rolling class.

My kiddos love Dave & Buster’s, and I have to admit that I had fun too. If you haven’t been, it is like a Chuck E Cheeses on steroids. They have games for kids and adults. There are food and drink options for everyone.

You may have seen The Grilled Cheeserie on Guy Fieris’ show Diners, Drive-ins & Dives on the Food Network. They serve some good ol’ comfort food. You can choose from a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches (and a nice selection of bread/gluten-free bread offered).

57. Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary
Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary is a private nature preserve. Much of Tennessee’s natural wildlife is protected here – birds, reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals. It is a beautiful place for a walk or picnic – there are gorgeous views of Tennessee nature.

58. Walk Across The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge
The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge connects downtown Nashville to the football stadium (spanning over Cumberland River). There is no traffic, so people can walk or bike across the bridge. It’s nice to be able to take your time and stop to enjoy the view or take photos.
This bridge offers some of the best views of downtown Nashville, especially by night.

The Natchez Trace Parkway is actually 444 miles long and goes through three states. Depending on where you start your road trip, you will either begin or end your Natchez Trace Parkway adventure in Nashville. Your family could start in Nashville, have breakfast at the Loveless Café, and then take the scenic drive to Baker Bluff Overlook and Jackson Falls. It will be a great family adventure!

If you have had your fill of Bonuts and Fried Chicken (is that even possible?), and you are looking for something lighter and healthier, you need to visit Adele’s. They serve comfort food that is fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced.
Their menu options are unique and very flavorful. You gotta try the Kale Salad with bread crumbs, pecorino, and an anchovy dressing – YUM!

There are few restaurants that we all agree on, but we all LOVE Milk & Honey! We did have to wait about an hour for a table, but we enjoyed walking the Gulch and checking out the cool murals and photo walls.

We have eaten here in Nashville (and Niagara Falls) and we really enjoyed ourselves. The food was very good, but my kiddos really loved the atmosphere. Hatch Show Print opened in 1879 and is one of America’s oldest letterpress shops. They have designed posters for Elvis Presley and many other entertainers and organizations. Small tours are available and you can even create your own poster.

I have never thought about visiting Nashville but after seeing all of these eateries and bars, I better add it to my list. I would need to stay a month so I could visit them all.

When I went to Nashville, I definitely did the more “touristy” things, but I would love to hit up some more local bars and restaurants!
