FREE (or ridiculously inexpensive) Blogging Resources

Have you been looking for the best blogging resources that won’t break the bank? Here are some fantastic resources that are totally free (or ridiculously inexpensive). They will help you start a new blog, design it, and build and grow your blog. Just read through the list and find what you’ve been needing. Links have been provided for most for your convenience.

You can get started for FREE on WordPress but it’s always better to shift to self-hosting . That way, you get your own domain name and you have more control over your content.

  • Bluehost  – Bluehost is one of the most popular blog-hosting companies (and is rated #1 by WordPress), and if you sign up through my link, you can get your hosting for as little as $3.95 per month. Use this link for the special discounted price.

Blogging Platforms

I have two websites and they are both on WordPress (hosted by Hostgator, but on the WordPress platform), and I love it!

Free blogging platform sites to start a blog:

Promoting Your Blog

  • Contests and Giveaways  Listing a contest or giveaway is free (well, unless you are giving away cash, gift cards, or a product. Those will cost you. You can run a contest offering a service you provide which will only ccost you some time) and is a great way to promote and increase traffic to your blog. Rafflecopter  is free (unless you upgrade, but I’ve used the free Rafflecopter several times with great success) and easy to set up. Once you have it set up on your blog, all you need to do is promote your giveaway.

Promote your giveaway here:

  • Tailwind  Tailwind is an easy-to-use pin scheduler. If you join a few Tailwind Tribes (Pinterest Group Boards), other bloggers will add your pins from your blog. And, you can show the love too by pinning other bloggers pins to your Pinterest boards. It’s a wonderful timesaver (scheduling your pins days in advance) and I have watched my page views skyrocket! Sign up HERE for a FREE month of Tailwind.

Free WordPress Plug-Ins

  • Yoast – I wish I had installed Yoast on my first day of blogging, but SEO felt overwhelming me at the time and I didn’t give it the priority that it deserves.  Yoast is your little friend who sits at the bottom of your post and lets you know how your post reads (using too many of the same words, not having enough subheadings, etc). It also gives practical recommendations for search engine optimization as well.
  • Jetpack –  Jetpack gives a detailed report of the number of people who’ve visited your website daily, as well and tells you which of your posts are the most popular and get the most visitors.
  • iThemes Security – iThemes Security has fantastic features to help protect your blog from hackers, back up your website, and to make sure everything on your blog stays secure.
  • WP-Optimize – WP-Optimize is easy to use and it cleans up your databases, deletes spam, and deletes the trash.
  • Akismet – Akismet Anti-Spam is constantly protecting your website/blog from spam.
  • Right Click Disable Original – Keep others from taking your info and photos by right clicking (copy/paste) from your website by disabling your right click on your blog.
  • Pinterest Pin It Button On Image (Hover)- Let your visitors Pin Images from your website with a Pin It or Save button on all of your posted photos.
  • W3 Total Cache – W3 Total Cache has been voted as the highest rated and most complete WordPress performance plugin. It will drastically increase the speed and user experience of your blog.

Free Media Kits

When reaching out to potential marketers, advertisers, and brands to work with you and your blog, it’s important to have a media kit – which is a document that shows information, facts, and statistics about your blog.  It is a professional way to showcase your blog, the topics you write about, and your social media following stats. Here are some fantastic free media kit templates:

This blog post contains affiliate links (Such as Bluehost) That means I receive a small commission on sales of the products that are linked at no additional cost to you. This does not affect/influence my opinions for  products services. I would recommend these even if there were no affiliate relationship.
