South Carolina: Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site

On our way home from our visit to Asheville and Charlotte, North Carolina, we made a little pit stop in Historic Camden. This Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site is on U.S. 521 North just 1.4 miles from Interstate 20 at exit 98.

The Battle of Camden was an important battle fought during the Revolutionary War.  It was fought between the British led by General Cornwallis and the Americans lead by General Gates.

The site is a 107-acre complex with hiking trails, cabins, homes, cabins, and artifacts from the Revolutionary War. There is also a gift shop and the opportunity to tour the site. One area is full of picnic tables, which makes this a perfect spot for a picnic. There are also restrooms located here.

Our children are younger and haven’t studied the Revolutionary War in detail yet, but they still enjoyed their visit here. My nine-year-old daughter really appreciated that this area and the historic homes were part of the Revolutionary War, and both of the kids were fascinated with homes and cabins that were over 200 years old.

My husband and I probably enjoyed our visit the most, and it opened up some interesting conversations in our family. I would like to re-visit this area when our children are older.  Seeing these areas and artifacts in person really brought history to life for us.
